Open Enrollment 2025 Overview
What is Open Enrollment?
Open Enrollment is the annual period when you can enroll in a health insurance plan for 2025. During this time, you can apply for new coverage, renew your current plan, or make changes to an existing plan. Outside of Open Enrollment, you cannot freely enroll in or change health plans. Only people who experience a qualifying life event can make changes to their health enrollments outside of Open Enrollment.
When does the 2025 Open Enrollment period start and end?
Open Enrollment begins on November 1st, 2024. Depending on when you want your coverage to start, you must enroll by the following deadlines:
- January 1st Coverage Deadline: December 15, 2024
- February 1st Coverage Deadline: January 15, 2025
If you live in one of the following states, you have additional time to enroll in a plan:
- California (Covered CA): Open Enrollment ends on January 31, 2025.
- District of Columbia (DC Health Link): Open Enrollment ends on January 31, 2025.
- New Jersey (Get Covered New Jersey): Open Enrollment ends on January 31, 2025.
- New York (NY State of Health): Open Enrollment ends on January 31, 2025.
- Massachusetts (MA Health Connector): Open Enrollment ends on January 23, 2025.
- Kentucky (kynect): Open Enrollment ends on January 16, 2025.
If you live in Idaho, your Open Enrollment begins on October 15th, 2024, and ends on December 16th, 2024.
What if I miss the Open Enrollment period?
If you miss Open Enrollment, you can only get coverage if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) due to a qualifying life event, such as getting married, or losing other health coverage, or being offered an ICHRA (like through StretchDollar!). If you miss Open Enrollment, please reach out to us to understand your enrollment options.
