Can I add someone who isn't an employee — like an accountant or bookkeeper — to my StretchDollar account?

Yes. Admin access works the same way for anyone, whether or not they're on your payroll. First add them under Employees → Add Employee, then email support@stretchdollar.com and we'll give them admin access. There's no setting in the portal to make someone an admin yourself. See How do I add another admin to my account?

A few important things to know before you do this:

  • We don't recommend adding people who aren't part of your company this way — for example, an outside accountant, bookkeeper, or a co-owner who isn't on payroll. The Add Employee flow is built for people employed by your company. It works mechanically for outside parties, but it isn't the intended use.
  • Whoever you add must waive their health benefit if they're not meant to receive it. Anyone added through Add Employee is treated as a benefits-eligible employee by default. When they receive their account invite, they'll be asked to Accept, Waive, or Learn More — have them select Waive to decline the health benefit while keeping their admin access.
  • You're only billed for people who use the benefit. The per-employee charge applies to people who enroll in your ICHRA and submit proof of coverage. An admin who waives won't add to your bill - so make sure they waive their benefits.

Once they've waived, they keep full admin access.

Admin access is broad

There's no view-only or billing-only role. Anyone set to Admin gets the same company-wide access as any other admin, including the ability to:

  • View every employee's enrollment and reimbursement details
  • Approve or reject reimbursement requests
  • Manage company and billing settings

If you'd rather not give an outside accountant full admin access, email us at support@stretchdollar.com. We can help you share exactly what they need, such as an export of billing or reimbursement records.
