How much time do employees have to choose a health plan?

Another way to ask this question: Are employees legally required to accept the benefit within a certain period of time?

The answer is, yes.

Employees have 60 days from the enrollment date of their StretchDollar health benefit policy to accept the benefit and enroll in a health plan. If they miss this window, they will not be able to shop for a health plan and use the benefit unless they have a Qualifying Life Event (i.e. they have a baby, get married, etc.) or until the next Open Enrollment season for the individual marketplace which is November 1 through December 15.

In the case there is a Qualifying Life Event, a special enrollment period would be initiated and the employee would be able to choose a plan and access the health benefit.
